Primary Input

The primary power input accepts 24-28VDC and is intended to be used as the main power source, such as the included 280W power supply.

The camera will boot immediately once power is applied to the main power input without the need to depress the power button.

Users can safely power off the device by either removing the power supply connector completely or depressing the power button for 10 seconds.

info

This is the preferred input for most applications, but especially in situations where the camera is remotely positioned from the operator and access to the power button is difficult or not practical.

The camera can then be re-booted again using the power button as long as the power source has not been disconnected from the camera.

Backup Input

The backup power input also accepts 24-28VDC and, if connected, will immediately take over in the event of a main power loss. This protects against image data loss within the camera's volatile RAM buffer.

Optionally, this input can also be used as a stand-alone power source.

warning

If only the backup input is connected, the camera will NOT boot immediately once power is applied. The power button must be depressed for 5 seconds before the camera powers on when using the backup input as a stand-alone power source.

The LEDs will indicate which source is active by displaying as green. Power is always drawn from the primary input first, even if the voltage on the backup input is slightly higher. Only if power is lost, that is, it falls below the threshold voltage, will the camera immediately draw from the secondary. Once power is restored to the primary, the E9 will resume power consumption from there.

info

It is advisable to supply mains power through the primary input, and to provide an alternative power source, such as a battery, to the secondary.

Battery operation

Although Pharsighted recommends a maximum of 28 VDC for mains-powered operation, 24 VDC batteries that reach a maximum charge up to 33.6 VDC can be safely used. It can be expected that E9 cameras will power off once the battery voltage is drawn down to 20 VDC.

The included power supply adapter cable must be used to connect to batteries with XLR output connectors. Users may also choose to contruct their own adapter cable using the part info and pinout diagram found in the I/O section.

Power Supply

Power Supply Transformer

The included power supply has an input range of 86-264VAC, and an output of 24VDC at 280Watts. The input of the supply requires a standard AC cable with an IEC-C13 type connector capable of handling 15amps (14AWG, stranded). A USA version of this cable is also included. On the output side of the supply, there is a 3-pin XLR type connector, wired in the standard cinema camera configuration.

Power Supply Adapter / Battery Cable

Power Supply Transformer

The Power Supply Adapter / Battery cable, 2 meters in length, has a 3-pin XLR on the input end, and a 3-pin LEMO on the output (camera) end of the cable. This cable is REQUIRED to connect both the power supply and camera together.

info

Due to its common XLR pin-out, the adapter cable can also be used to provide power from 24VDC type batteries found in the cinema industry.
