Free-air Butane Ignition by Spark Plug
Schlieren imaging of butane-air mixture with spark plug ignition. Ignition and flame propagation of fuel combustion is a common research area for high speed imaging. While a typical schlieren system may be deemed too sensitive for combustion applications, a ronchi ruling here replaces the typical knife edge to expand the refraction detection range.
